The Story Behind Orlando's Iconic Treasure Island Gift Shop
Four Decades of Florida Magic
Long before Disney Springs had a name, before the outlet malls lined International Drive, and before Orlando became the world's most-visited destination, a small gift shop opened its doors on State Road 535. The year was 1985, and Treasure Island Gift Shop was born.
The Early Days
In 1985, the SR 535 corridor was still developing. Walt Disney World was just 14 years old, and the Lake Buena Vista area was transforming from orange groves into a tourism destination. Treasure Island saw the opportunity to serve the growing wave of visitors who wanted authentic Florida souvenirs at fair prices.
The Famous Alligator
Our 14-foot alligator has been greeting visitors since the beginning. It's become one of the most photographed roadside attractions on SR 535. Generations of families have posed with our gator — we've seen parents bring their children who then bring their children years later.
Weathering the Storms
Forty-one years in Orlando tourism means weathering literal and figurative storms. Hurricanes, recessions, and even a global pandemic couldn't keep our doors closed for long. We've adapted, evolved, and kept serving the millions of visitors who pass through Orlando every year.
What Hasn't Changed
Our core mission remains the same as it was in 1985:
- Fair prices on quality merchandise
- Friendly, helpful staff
- The widest selection in the area
- Open every single day of the year
What's New
While we honor our roots, we've kept up with the times. Our inventory now includes trending characters like Stitch, modern resort wear, and Orlando's latest merchandise. We've also embraced technology with our new website while keeping the in-store experience that our customers love.
